The island

Landfall

Thirty-five days. One island.

A living story — and you write it.

Turn to any page.

3
This is where it starts. One day at a time.

Thirty-five days.
One island.

Thirty-five days. One island. A book that writes itself from what you do.

I am on every page. Turn and you will see.

Blue is on every page.

Every day opens on her white page. She becomes the thing the day is about, writes the question in her own hand, and asks your name — then keeps it.

What made you open this today?

6
7
Your days write it.

Your days write a book.

Every night Blue deals the page from what the day recorded, writes it in the book’s voice with your name in it, gives it a number, and says at its foot where the book turned and why. Six reasons a person came are six books with the same island in them.

Page eleven of Sam’s book, the Fog — with the reel watched, with it skipped, and after three days away.

Four open doorways in a driftwood wall on a beach
9
Four doors. Pick any one.

Day one. Four ways in.

Blue draws the circle every day is made of: learn something, do something, reward something, plan something. Then the day opens onto four doorways in a driftwood wall on the beach. Take them in any order. Each one shows its minutes, and a check when it is done.

One door fits in a few minutes. The rest wait for you. And on the sand beside them, an optional visit to the future: Fly to day 34 with Blue ›

The old reels. By choice, unlocked by showing up.

Dr. Malakor, the man who built the island, filmed training reels while he built it. The night before you arrived, Blue went through the archive and found them. The film is silent, so Blue is every voice. Each can comes down when you have come for it.

The island fills the way you fill it.

Twelve paintings. All of them move.

24
My Landfall Storyyour name
25
This book is the one you write.

Every day becomes a page of your book.

My Landfall Story opens like a book — a hinged cover with your island, its title and your name on it. Inside: the contents, five acts; a chapter a week; a page a day, with every piece that day made on it and “Put it on Home ›” beside each one.

26
A tool’s painting
27

Every tool its own exhibit.

Real sculpted objects, thick paint running down the white, and twenty of the tools keep a painting of their own that is grey until you have done something in it. Scroll the wall — each one takes its colour as you reach it, the way it does in the app.

105 tools have a sculpted icon and 85 of those are real 3-D models, lit and photographed. Ten of them are here.

L.A.N.C.E., painted
31

Two voices, one guide, and a companion that only grows.

L.A.N.C.E. and Chip tell the story. He redefines his own acronym every day and means it every time; Chip keeps it kind.

“I did not invite you, but the boat is here now and the boat is my problem, so you are also my problem.”

Blue runs every day on her own white page. Your companion hatches from the egg you choose on day three and only ever grows.

32
The boat at the pier
33
On the last page, you sign it.

Day thirty-five. You sign it.

Five weeks earlier the island was grey. It filled the way you filled it — a place at a time, by the things you actually did.

  • Your island, signed and dated. The whole picture, in colour, with your name on it. Keep it, print it, set it as your lock screen.
  • Both logs open together. Yours, and his — the private one he kept about you for thirty-five days, in his own hand.
  • The letter you wrote on day two. Sealed until the last week, then opened — in your own words about who you were when you arrived.
  • Every painting you uncovered. Twenty tools keep one. Each hangs in colour for exactly as much work as went into it.
  • Your book, whole. The last chapter is written from all of it, and it ends on the word you chose on day seven.
  • Your words stay on your phone. Connect a therapist and you choose, tool by tool, what they receive.
  • The boat is at the pier. It waits there, and it is yours to take whenever you like.
34
The Lighthouse
35

What you assign opens on their phone.

  • You send a tool from the client’s record in the Lighthouse. You choose it — the Lighthouse may suggest one from words in a session's transcript, and it goes out the moment you tap it.
  • It is first on their week. The calendar offers it — “From your therapist” — and they place it: the day, the part of the day, the hour if they want one.
  • A receipt comes home, once your client has chosen what you receive. Started, finished, or still to come. A count — what it means is yours to read together.

$19.99 a month. Yours.

Bought by you, for you. It pairs with a therapist’s Lighthouse if they run one, and it works just as well on its own.

Paint
39

Walked day by day, by the therapist who wrote it.

Lance Nabers, LPC, walked the course one tool at a time and ruled on every detail — ninety rulings in one sitting, kept word for word. Then it was built overnight, photographed, and checked by instruments that have to be able to fail.

It opens on a short film and L.A.N.C.E.’s welcome — a few minutes, all of it skippable. Then Blue, the circle, and four doors. Take one, and come back for the rest.

His words first.

The order and every ruling are his: five acts, walked with him day by day, tool by tool.

Every check is proven able to fail.

Every probe is run against a known-good and a known-bad case. One that reads the same both times is thrown away.

Look, then claim.

Behaviour is settled by opening the app and pressing the thing — then photographing it. The photographs are in the repository.

40

Step ashore.

It opens on a short film and L.A.N.C.E.’s welcome — a few minutes, all of it skippable.
