The Living Story Company
The Living Story Group

The clinical half of the company: a working practice, the Awareness Continuum Framework, and education for providers.

“The whole thing is we’re starting to identify the issues that are making us separate from ourself and what separated us from our self. Getting on that wrong path creates anxiety, depression, substance abuse or whatever. And so this model is trying to get you back to that self.”Lance Nabers, LPC

Nine phases on the client’s path, in four groups; five weeks a person walks; 95 tools placed on the nine. Seven phases of the therapist’s work, and thirty-five days of the Climb. The nine, the four and the five weeks are read from the Lighthouse’s own code when this page is built.

Who decides what goes in the note?

You do, every time. The draft arrives with its sources attached, anything uncertain arrives marked, and your name is what signs it.

THE SHORT ANSWER

The licensed human decides.

That is the whole of the method, and the software is built to be held to it.

01 · THE PRACTICE

Care grounded in human experience.

Lance Nabers is a licensed professional counselor with twenty-five years in the room and more than twenty-five thousand people seen. He runs a telehealth practice, trains therapists, and walks every tool on these pages himself before it ships.

The curriculum in the worlds is the one he has run in rooms for years. The framework came first; the software was built to be held to it.

Living Story Group

Clinical practice and education.

The clinical half of The Living Story Company: a working practice, the framework every tool is built on, and education and consultation for other providers.

Clinical practice

Twenty-five years of listening.

Lance Nabers, LPC, has seen more than twenty-five thousand people in twenty-five years. He is the clinician, the first user of every tool, and the author of the framework.

The Awareness Continuum Framework

Nine phases, in four.

The client’s path from “Who are you and why are you here” to “How to stay connected to the Self and others”, with awareness, insight, intention, purpose & passion rising underneath.

XAI Therapy · the method

AI supported by humans, and the human decides.

“XAI Therapy is a therapist-led clinical model that uses explainable artificial intelligence to illuminate between-session behavior, strengthen therapeutic insight, and improve outcomes — without replacing human judgment.”

Provider resources

Education and consultation.

The Climb teaches a therapist the workspace and the worlds in thirty-five days. Supervision, group work and consultation run inside the Lighthouse.

02 · THE AWARENESS CONTINUUM FRAMEWORK

The client’s path: nine phases, in four.

“The whole thing is we’re starting to identify the issues that are making us separate from ourself and what separated us from our self. Getting on that wrong path creates anxiety, depression, substance abuse or whatever. And so this model is trying to get you back to that self.”— Lance Nabers. His title for the whole arc: The Real You.

Each phase has two names, both his: what a therapist says, and what a person reads on their phone. Under each group, one thing rises.

A phase is where someone is: a place on the path, open from the first day. The client and the therapist set it together, and when their two marks differ, both are kept with their dates.

03 · THE FIVE WEEKS ON THE NINE

What a person walks, and what a therapist sees.

A person meets the five weeks of their world and the nine in the pad’s words. The four group names and the clinical names are the therapist’s. One path, two languages.

04 · THE SEVEN AND THE NINE

The therapist’s work, in seven phases.

“The seven phases are the therapist’s work; the nine are the client’s path; each of the seven meets the nine where the work happens.”

01

Onboarding & informed transparency

The client is told how the work runs, and who decides what, before anything else happens.

02

Therapeutic rapport

The relationship is the intervention. Everything here is built to serve it.

03

Assessment — continuous, not episodic

What a person does between sessions becomes data the hour can finally see.

04

Behavioural model learning

Patterns are surfaced as counts, with their source attached, for a clinician to read.

05

Task completion

Small, chosen, finishable. The tool is the task; the receipt is the evidence.

06

Skill building & generalisation

What worked in the room has to work on a Tuesday, alone, in a car park.

07

Integration & ownership

The client ends holding the skill, not holding an app.

THE STANCE

Neutral. Objective. Supportive. Direct.

Neutral toward the client’s choices, objective about the data, supportive of the person, direct about the pattern.

05 · THE METHOD · XAI THERAPY

Explainable by construction.

“XAI Therapy is a therapist-led clinical model that uses explainable artificial intelligence to illuminate between-session behavior, strengthen therapeutic insight, and improve outcomes — without replacing human judgment.”— his definition, from the board.

The glass box beside the black box
The glass box: the working parts visible from outside. The calling card of everything the company makes.

How information travels: six steps.

  1. The story invites. A living world draws the person toward the tool they need, one at a time.
  2. The tool does real clinical work. Each one is an instrument that captures structured data.
  3. The data is glass. Ratings, distortions, reframes and patterns over time, all legible because the framework is built in.
  4. AI works in the open. It organizes, prompts and drafts, citing the exact evidence behind each. The decision stays with the clinician.
  5. The clinician decides. Every insight is reviewed by a human who can explain it, override it and own it.
  6. The client keeps their story. “Your entries are yours and stay on your phone; what your therapist receives is what you choose, tool by tool; the note your therapist signs is the practice’s record.”
TRANSPARENCY

You can see how it works.

The mechanisms, the data flows, and the role AI played in building it are disclosed to clinician and client alike.

INTERPRETABILITY

The data means something clinically.

A belief rating that fell from 70 to 30 across an exercise is legible to any trained clinician in seconds.

EXPLAINABILITY

Every insight has evidence.

An insight traces to the client’s own entries and to a named clinical framework, and a human decides.

THE PAPER

The Rememberer: explainable-by-construction AI and the between-session memory problem in psychotherapy.

A framework paper with three proposed studies. It makes no outcome claims; it proposes the studies that would earn them.

06 · THE FILMS

Five short films from the clinical side.

Made in the summer, narrated by Pam: the other ten thousand and eighty minutes of a client’s week, the paperwork, the open question, and the ninety-seven tools. They play from xaitherapy.com.

Four seconds. The moment a session turns.
Ninety-seven. The tools, and where they came from.
The open question. The question a therapist asks every week, and what finally answers it.
The paperwork. The hour becomes the note.
Every session. The one-minute film.
07 · THE TRAILER AND THE SPOTS

Tools that show their work.

The trailer, and two thirty-second spots that say it with a smile. Tap one to play it with sound.

The question. A clinician who spent twenty-five years listening built the other road.
Smarter than your week “XAI. Smarter than your week.”
AI hides “AI hides. XAI helps.”
08 · FOR PROVIDERS

Education and consultation.

For therapists, group practices and organisations that want the approach as well as the tools.

THE CLIMB

Thirty-five days up the tower.

A therapist’s own course inside the Lighthouse: one week learning the workspace, three weeks at the windows of the three worlds, one week in the lamp room.

SUPERVISION

The co-sign queue.

Notes that wait on a supervisor sit in one list until the name on the licence signs them.

GROUPS

Group work in the room.

Each group keeps a roster and its purpose in one line; a group session is your video room with your group in it.

CONSULTATION

The approach, for your practice.

Education and consultation on the framework and on running a practice this way. Write to us and say what you need.

SUBSCRIPTIONS, IN LEVELS

What a subscription to the clinical side includes, by level.

The Lighthouse workspace. A referral system, where a practice may receive referrals from people using the worlds on their own. The newsletter. At some levels, 24-hour tech support, other apps, and personalised building.

09 · THE LIGHTHOUSE

The workspace built to this method.

The hour becomes the note, every sentence stands on a line of the hour, the record stays in your building, and the worlds carry the work home. Owned by Living Story Group; built by Wayward Robots.

10 · WHAT IT COSTS

One seat for the therapist. One world for the person.

THE LIGHTHOUSE

$49.99

a month · the therapist. The whole workspace, installed on your own computer. A full refund in the first thirty days.

A WORLD

$19.99

THE LADDER

Three paired clients and the seat is half price. Five, and it is free.

A client who pairs their world with your Lighthouse pays down your seat.
