“What if one of us is at work?”

You still meet. Each phone walks its own castaway to the same place on the island. One of you at the office, one at home with the kids, both at the waterfall.

01 · THE STORY

A boy nobody kept built an island that keeps everyone.

A sickly foundling, given back twice, builds a boat out of the wood they insulted him with, wrecks on an island that is on no chart, and over twenty years builds ten wooden friends who wake only when the sun is up, and ninety-seven tools so their gladness could outlast the sun. The tools will answer. He dies with one question unanswered: was I a good boy?

Three years later a family washes up. They argue on the beach within the hour, and a piece of driftwood judges them: the Jumble does not help storms. Thirty-one firsts later, they are the ones running the tools back on the robots. You get well by being needed by somebody who is worse off.

Gullhaven, 1929. A boy in a Maine foundling home, twice chosen, twice brought back.
At twelve he builds a boat out of driftwood, the material they used to insult him.
Skip: his first robot, and his first friend.
The Collier, who runs on fire, and is the only one awake at night.
The Halcyon. A family charters a boat for one good day, and the storm has other plans.
The wreck.
The village the Jumble built, where nothing important works when attempted alone.
The feast of small things.
Naming the Undertow.
The apology forge: a sorry is a thing you shape, not a thing you say.
Every plank has a name.
The letter to the family a year out.

The Wayward Boy is the island’s book: Book One, the boy (1929–1951); Book Two, the castaways (1954–1955). The player family is a Halcyon family.

For couples and families

A family is not the boat that sank. It is what they build from it.

Driftwood is a world for couples and families, told as a survival story on an island where nothing important works when attempted alone.

A 3-D island

Meet me at the waterfall.

The island is a place you walk. On a phone, on a computer or in a headset, each person walks their own figure to the fire, the shelter, the falls. The challenges live at places you can name.

The robots who were there first

Prove you’re not a storm.

Ten wooden robots built by a boy nobody kept, who wake only when the sun is up. They do not help storms. Thirty-one firsts later, the family is running the tools back on the robots.

Thirty-five days

The Wreck. The Camp. The Signal Fires. The Storm Returns. The Raft.

Five seasons, a week each: safety, structure, connection, the cycle, and the raft you name together.

The loop

Did they do it together, or put it off?

A tool sent from the Lighthouse lands at a place on the island. The receipt says whether it was done, when, and whether they did it together.

02 · THE TRAILER

Skip does the narrating.

Fifty-four seconds on the island, narrated by Skip. Tap to play it with sound.

The crossing Every lost thing finds its way.
03 · THE ISLAND

A place you walk, on a phone or in a headset.

The island is the app. Each person makes a figure and walks it: to the fire for the check-in, to the shelter for the family tools, to the ridge for the signal. A tool is an object on the island; you walk to it and tap it.

A couple can call each other during the week: meet me at the waterfall and finish the challenge together. One of them at work, one at home with the kids, both walking to the same place. They see each other. They chat. They laugh that they are doing this. And the homework is done.

Phone-first and two minutes long. A headset is the bonus.

05 · TOGETHER

Nothing important works when attempted alone.

Fires lit solo gutter out. Shelters raised by one pair of hands lean. The island yields only to together, and the family picks at the fire what together means for them.

EMBERS

The check-in.

At first light, each of you says one true word about how you are. The fire is where the day begins.

WARMTH

The milestone.

Today’s first, done together or confirmed by every member present. The camp only ever grows; real work only ever adds up.

THE SIGNAL

The older tool, lit again.

One fire burns always: the one that says we are here, come home. The daily rigging, small, every day, always lit.

The apology forge
The forge: broken things get mended visibly, and mended things are stronger at the seam.

The Undertow.

The villain is the current: the family’s own conflict cycle, with no face and no voice. Nobody is the problem; the pattern is. The endgame is mapping it, and learning to swim it together.

Driftwood, carved in a washed-up log at the foot of the waterfall, a family and a wooden robot sitting on it by the fire.
The village the Jumble built
The village. Ten wooden robots, each built for one particular sadness.
06 · THE JUMBLE

Ten wooden robots, and the tools will answer.

Skip, who was the first and the first friend. Hollow, who seals shut under stress. The Collier, who runs on fire and is the only one awake at night. Each one is a pattern a family can recognise, befriend, and help. Every one of them is a robot in the story and an AI in fact, and says so.

The tools came from a boy who wanted friends. That is why they heal.

07 · FOR THERAPISTS · THE LOOP

Send a tool. A receipt comes back.

  • You send it from the client's record in the Lighthouse. From their page, or from the hour itself. You choose the tool, every time.
  • It opens on their phone, in their own world. Driftwood — the tool is already installed; the message is what is new.
  • A receipt comes home. Started, finished, or still to come, once your client has chosen what you receive. “Three of the last five” is arithmetic; what it means about a person is yours to say.

Up to 173 tools can be sent · 173 for a Driftwood client — read from the Lighthouse's own catalogue on 2026-11-08.

A client who pairs their world with your Lighthouse pays down your seat.

Start when you are ready.

Tell us what you want to start with, and we set you up: the seat, a world, or both.

10 · HOW IT WAS MADE

A world for families, on the island’s bones.

The engine is Landfall’s, byte for byte. The island owns its words, its seasons and its places. The story was blessed by the therapist who wrote the scene it is built for, and every line is his to redline.
